Eligibility for Membership
Calling All Women!
Is there a Patriot in your family tree?
Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolution may apply for DAR membership.
A Patriot is any ancestor who aided the cause of American independence. These efforts may come through military, civil or patriotic service and must occur during the period between 19 April 1775 (Battle of Lexington) and 26 November 1783 (withdrawal of British Troops from New York). Not sure what qualifies as acceptable service? The DAR offers a handy list of Accepted Revolutionary War Service.
The DAR Genealogical Research Database (GRS) is a great resource to see if your ancestor is already registered in the NSDAR Patriot Index. Don't overlook checking the Descendants Search in the GRS to see if you have a portion of a lineage in common with another member.
Don't fret if you don't find an ancestor in the GRS, we are here to help you every step of the way towards becoming a member of the DAR! Click the Contact link on the menu above to get started.
Application Process
If you're looking to join a chapter and feel the Harmony Hall Chapter, NSDAR, is the right fit for you, please click the Contact link in the menu above. You'll hear from our registrar, who will ask you a few questions about your lineage.
If you have completed research on your lineage, our registrar asks that you please collect what you can so that the two of you may go over each proof source for birth, marriage, and death, in addition to the proof of your Patriot's service.
If you have not completed research on your lineage, don't worry! DAR registrars and volunteer genealogists are available to guide you through the process and do what they can to help you find the proof you need to join.
Still confused? Overwhelmed about the process? Don't know where to start? Click the Contact link in the menu above and we'll give you a call.
Junior Members (Aged 18-36 years)
Any DAR member age eighteen through thirty-five years (until her thirty-sixth birthday) is a Junior Member. The DAR recognizes the Juniors of today are the leaders of tomorrow!
In addition to meeting other like-minded young women, Junior Members have the opportunity to page at both the Maryland State and National Society's annual conferences. Any member from age 18 until her 41st birthday, who has been accepted as a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, is eligible to page.
Pages assist all of the conference committees and staff responsible for the smooth operation of each conference. They serve as hostesses, errand runners, flag bearers, and helping hands to all members in attendance. Additionally, pages add pageantry to the processions, and, as a result of their participation, gain a greater knowledge of the workings of the Society while building lifelong friendships.
